Sheffield Clean Air Zone
The Sheffield inner ring road and all roads inside it (Class C, about 0.9 square miles).
Who pays
Class C: buses, coaches, HGVs, vans/LGVs, campervans, some SUVs and 4x4s (N1), taxis and private hire vehicles that are diesel below Euro 6 or petrol below Euro 4. Private cars, motorbikes and mopeds are not charged.
When it applies
24 hours a day, 7 days a week; a day is midnight to midnight.

Discounts and exemptions
- National exemptions (automatic, all English CAZs): ultra low emission vehicles, disabled and disabled passenger tax class vehicles, military vehicles, historic vehicles, vehicles retrofitted under the Clean Vehicle Retrofit Accreditation Scheme (CVRAS), certain agricultural vehicles
- Local exemptions (apply; mostly 1 year, renewable): school trip buses/coaches/minibuses (per day), community transport (s19/s22 permits), non-commercial vintage buses/emergency vehicles (max 10 days per financial year), vehicles with a compliant replacement or retrofit on order, disabled-adapted minibuses/buses/coaches, agricultural and similar vehicles, specialist works vehicles, specialist HGVs (special types), showman's vehicles, recovery vehicles, specialist emergency service vehicles
- Large motorhome discount (£10 instead of £50)
How to pay
Online at GOV.UK Drive in a Clean Air Zone service (or national CAZ phone line 0300 029 8888). Motorhome discount is paid through Sheffield Council's permits portal.
Payment deadline
Six days before you travel, on the day you travel, or six days after you have travelled.
If you don't pay
PCN £120 plus the daily CAZ charge; discounted by 50% (to £60, plus the CAZ charge) if paid within 14 days. Representations within 28 days. Amount of any charge-certificate increase not confirmed on an official Sheffield page.
Good to know
Live since 27 February 2023. Charge certificates are normally +50% under national rules, but this was not confirmed for Sheffield.
